All About Trim

A few weeks ago in our Watch on Wednesday video, I mentioned that we had a LOT of homework to do in terms of trim. We’re HUGE proponents of spending a few extra bucks on customizing details like crown molding, baseboards, and window casings to ultimately give the house more character and make the finished product look like a million bucks!

To get accurate bids and ensure we communicated our vision to trim carpentry subcontractors, we needed to spec out each and every last detail of trim throughout the house… who ever knew!? So we visited some new construction communities, investigated options online, and dug up old photos of some of the trim treatments we loved back in our Atlanta house.

As you’ll see below, we’re adhering to an updated-Craftsman design style, reflecting many elements on the house’s exterior. No typical 2.5″ door casings here – we’re combining a variety of standard 1x boards to create clean-lined upgraded simplicity. Here are a few examples:
