Painting Bid – CertaPro Painters

by J Scott on August 26, 2014

We were getting down to the wire on starting the painting work, and we hadn’t yet chosen a painter. Finding a painting company that is familiar with new construction isn’t easy, and dealing with painters who aren’t familiar with the new construction process can be a bit difficult. For example, most painters don’t want to come in first to prime the walls and then come back two weeks later when the hardwoods and trim are complete; but this is by-far the most efficient way to do things, both from the builder’s and from the painter’s point of view.

After getting a couple bids, we decided to go with CertaPro Painters of Ellicott City, a local painting franchise. Their bid is broken down as follows:

  • Interior Paint: $8,000
  • Exterior Paint: $1,250

That’s a total of $9,250 for paint, but we’ll likely have some additional exterior painting to do on top of this, so I’m going to budget $9,750 for the total paint bid.

CertaPro will be coming in immediately after sheetrock finishes to spray primer on all the walls, and then will come back after hardwoods and trim to roll/brush the walls with final coats.

Certapro is crazy expensive. I had them come out one time and the measured the wall sq. ft with lasers. Came 3x more expensive

Hey George –

They were actually pretty reasonable and comparable for this project. We got a couple bids that were right in line with this one…
