I’ve been getting a lot of roofing and gutter bids over the past two months. In some cases, we got bids from companies that only specialized in roofing/gutters, and in some cases, we got bids from companies that could tackle the siding work as well.
There was one company that stood out while getting bids — the guy I was working with on the bid was detail-oriented and quick to respond to questions and bid revisions. In all the years I’ve been in real estate, one thing I’ve learned is that if you have to struggle with a contractor to get a bid, you’ll probably struggle through the project as well. So, when getting a bid is easy, it makes me a good bit more comfortable moving forward.
Ultimately, I decided to go with Jerry’s Siding & Roofing for both the roof/gutter and the vinyl siding work (still need to find another contractor for the small amount of stone siding we’ll have). Here’s how the roofing/gutter bid breaks down:
- Main Roof: $7,863
- Gutters: $1,897
Our original plans call for a metal roof over the front portico, but after getting several bids, it appears even that small amount of roof would cost $1500-3500, which is way more than we felt the aesthetic value was worth (we’re perfectly happy with shingles on that part of the roof). So, we scrapped that design to save a few thousand dollars, which we’ll happily use somewhere else… 🙂
